He is an executive director of, and chair of the risk management committee of, the National Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts, himself an Eagle Scout.

He also serves as a court appointed mediator at the Montgomery County Circuit Court.

He is the first vice chair of the Montgomery County Central Committee of one of the major political parties, having been elected to the Central Committee by voters in his home district and voted first vice chair by the members of the Central Committee.

His greatgrandfather is the Dan Willard who was president of the B & O Railroad for almost two decades. It is family tradition, passed father to son, that honor never goes out of fashion and that finding and helping decent people at a fair price is the only way to run a railroad.

If you want to cheat, you need a different lawyer. If you're one of the "good guys", we want to help.

Dan is the firm's sole shareholder, having founded the firm in 1991. For trivia buffs, the Articles of Incorporation for "Daniel S. Willard, P.C." were accepted by the State Department of Assessment and Taxation for recording on April 7, 1991.

"P.C." in the name "Daniel S. Willard, P.C." stands for "professional corporation", a type of corporation recognized in Maryland law for certain professions such as the law.

When Dan negotiated the corporation's first lease with Washinton Real Estate Investment Trust in 1991, he refused to sign a personal guarantee. He reasoned that he was not setting a good example for his commercial tenant clients if he could not negotiate such a term for the firm. WRIT accepted the lease in the name of the corporation only and has had no personal guarantee from anyone on behalf of the corporation since.

Madelon H. Willard, Esq.

Madelon Willard is a graduate of George Washington University, a cum laude graduate of Bucknell University and the recipient of an A.B.A. award in land use law. She has been a major sponsor of the Montgomery County Association of Business and Professional Women.

Prior to joining the firm, she performed multi-million dollar commercial loan foreclosures as outside counsel for a nationwide banking institution, once selling almost an entire city block of collected commercial parcels near Fort McHenry in Baltimore in a single, and complex, transaction.

She is licensed to practice in, and is a member of the bars of, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Click the "Services" button for some of Madelon's areas of practice.

The firm holds an "AV" Rating, the highest rating awarded by Martindale Hubbell's peer review rating system. Madelon has been instrumental in ensuring the quality of the legal services that have been recognized by that rating. For what this rating means to you, see FAQs 6-9.

In addition to practicing law full time, she works in numerous food, clothing and book sale drives to raise money to support those in need.

Madelon is not, and has made it clear she does not need or want to be, a shareholder of the firm: she desn't have to take on that liability because she already owns her husband's soul. Her legal opinion is, "since he's the only shareholder, don't come cryin' to me." From the inception of her legal career as an associate at other law firms, she had only one criterion for required salary: it had to be more than her husband was making wherever he was then as an associate. She always got her way. She gets her salary and she gets to go home.

Madelon joined the firm in 1992.

She and her husband Dan are the proud parents of two smart and independent daughters. They learned from mom.
