One national medical group has announced the acquisition of a local anesthesiology group. As the business surrounding healthcare shifts, the Maryland based anesthesiologists look forward to the opportunity to focus more on their patients and less on the business side of healthcare. Although it is a large investment, MEDNAX is moving forward with the acquisition.
Physicians Anesthesia Associates, P.A., has been the only anesthesiology service providers to a local Baltimore based hospital for several decades. However, as healthcare changes loom ahead, they felt that the time had arrived to forgo their private status and instead join a national group, MEDNAX. By doing so, the anesthesiology group hopes to focus the majority of their attention on their patients' needs, rather than the changing aspects of business.
MEDNAX is a prominent provider of several medical services that include pediatric physician groups as well as anesthesiologists. The acquisition of their newest anesthesiology group will add to their over 1,800 providers of anesthesia services that span multiple states. Although details have not been made readily available, a financial transaction between the two has been reported.
Acquiring a new business can be a thrilling endeavor for all parties involved, especially when the acquisition is slated to better serve Maryland patients. However, there are still significant risks involved in such a large investment. Applicable state and federal regulations and laws can pose a problem if not properly adhered to over the course of the acquisition. As every situation is different, it is beneficial for all parties involved to remain knowledgeable of the laws as they apply to each individual acquisition in order to have the smoothest transition possible.
